Maputo to Ponta do Ouro transfers

A Maputo to Ponta do Ouro transfer is a private, door-to-door car journey from the capital down to Mozambique’s southernmost beach town — your own vehicle and driver for the 121 km run over the Katembe bridge, on tar the whole way. It works the same in both directions, and the fare doesn’t move whether we collect you at the airport, your hotel, or a house across town.

$125 ≈ 8,000 MZN

Per private vehicle · one way · same price in either direction. We confirm the fare before you book.

  • A private car with driver — just your group, Maputo to the coast
  • Any pickup point, same fare — airport, hotel or home in Maputo, the price doesn’t change
  • Ponta Malongane too — same transfer, just a little further up the coast
  • Fuel and tolls included — the fare we agree is the whole fare, nothing added on the road

Staying somewhere that needs a 4x4? You must tell us when you book. The road to the village is tar, but many lodge access tracks around Ponta are sand. Our standard transfer cars aren’t 4x4s — we have 4x4s and will gladly arrange one, but we don’t run the lodges, so check with your accommodation and let us know.

No changes, no timetable

How the Maputo–Ponta do Ouro
transfer works.

Booking the Maputo–Ponta do Ouro transfer takes one WhatsApp message — no terminal, no connections, no changing vehicles. Here’s how it goes.

  1. 1

You tell us the date and direction

Your travel date, which way you’re going, where to collect you, and the name of your lodge in Ponta. A sentence is enough to start.

  2. 2

    We confirm and quote it

We check availability and send a fixed $125 fare — the same price from any pickup point in Maputo, with no per-seat maths and no surprises on the road.

  3. 3

    We collect you and drive

Your driver picks you up at the door and takes the Katembe bridge south — Maputo to Ponta do Ouro, or Ponta do Ouro back to Maputo.

The route

How far Ponta do Ouro is from Maputo.

Ponta do Ouro is about 121 km south of Maputo, and the drive takes roughly an hour and fifty minutes door to door. The route crosses the Maputo–Katembe bridge out of the city and runs south on tar the whole way to the village — which is the detail most old advice still gets wrong. This journey was once a slow sand-track crossing that genuinely required a 4x4 and half a day; the bridge and the paved road changed that, and a standard car now does it comfortably.

Sand hasn’t disappeared entirely, it has just moved to the end. The streets around the village and many lodge access tracks are still soft, so whether you need a 4x4 depends on where you sleep rather than how you get there — tell us the lodge and we’ll send the right vehicle.

Maputo National Park sits on the same road, roughly 68 km and fifty minutes from the city, with elephants and wetlands running down toward the coast. Its interior tracks are sand and require a 4x4, so if you’d like to stop, tell us when you book and we’ll plan the vehicle and the day around it.

It runs the same in reverse. Ponta do Ouro to Maputo is the identical private, door-to-door service for the same $125 — most often booked for the return to the airport at the end of a stay.
