Plan your Mozambique trip

Tell us where you want to go.

We’re a locally-owned tour operator in Vilanculos. We plan custom Mozambique trips — islands, diving, culture, off-grid — with the lodges we’d send our friends to and the day trips we run ourselves. No deposit, weather refunds, and you only book what you actually want.

What you get

A real plan, not a brochure.

  • Day-by-day itinerary

Where you stay, when you move, what you do each day — built around your dates, your group, and what you actually want.

  • Lodges we know

We pick from places we’ve stayed at, eaten at, or sent guests to. No mystery bookings.

  • Internal flights & transfers

LAM, Airlink, road transfers, boat transfers, dhow boats. We handle every hand-off in-country.

  • The day trips we run

Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina, whale watching, fishing, kitesurfing, diving, quad rental — built into the trip from our own boats and crews.

  • Honest budget

A real number for the whole trip, with options at different lodge tiers. No surprise line items.

  • Local context

Visa quirks for your passport, the right SIM card, what to pack, what to skip. We answer the questions Google can’t.

The kind of trips we plan

Beach, islands, dhows — and the bits in between.

Mozambique beach + islands holiday

The classic: Maputo culture day, fly to Vilanculos, days on the Bazaruto islands, a slow finish on the bay. 7 to 10 days.

10-day itinerary →

Diving & whale-shark trip

Tofo for whale sharks and manta rays, Vilanculos and Bazaruto for the reefs. Built around dive shops we trust.

Best beaches →

Honeymoon / private islands

Anantara Bazaruto, &Beyond Benguerra, Azura, Kisawa, Vamizi, Medjumbe. Mozambique does honeymoons quietly and very, very well.

Islands guide →

Two-week deep trip

Southern coast plus the Quirimbas, or southern coast plus Gorongosa. The version of the trip that actually shows you the country.

14-day itinerary →

Family beach week

Vilanculos as the base, calm bay for kids, day trips to Magaruque, lodges set up for families, no chaotic transfers.

Vilanculos →

Add-on to a South Africa safari

Most guests fly Vilanculos via Johannesburg. We dovetail with your Kruger or Cape Town leg without making you fly home in between.

How it works

Four steps, no pressure.

Asking is always free. We charge a small $15 planning fee for the full written day-by-day plan — credited straight back to your booking when you go ahead. A filter, not a paywall.

  1. 1. You message us

WhatsApp or email. Tell us your dates, where you’re flying from, your group, and the rough idea (beaches, diving, honeymoon, family, whatever). Pictures of trips you’ve liked help.

  2. 2. We come back with a plan

Usually within a day or two. Day-by-day itinerary, lodge picks, internal transfers, and a real budget. Often two or three options at different price points.

  3. 3. We adjust

You tell us what you want changed. Different lodge, different pace, different region. We iterate until it fits.

  4. 4. We book

We confirm everything in-country. You book your international flights yourself (it’s usually cheaper that way). Once you’re here, we’re your local point of contact for the whole trip.

Common questions

Before you message us.

What does a custom Mozambique trip cost?
It depends on length, group size, and the lodges you choose. A 10-day mid-range Mozambique trip is usually $2,000–3,500 USD per person including internal flights, comfortable lodges, and day trips. Premium and private-island stays go higher. Backpacker shoestring goes lower. Send us your dates and what you have in mind — we’ll quote a real number.
Do you charge to plan the trip?
Asking us questions is always free — message us anytime with your dates, group, and what you’re into, and we’ll answer. For the full written day-by-day plan (named lodges, transfers, real budget), we charge a small $15 planning fee, which we credit back to your booking when you go ahead. A small filter to keep us focused on travellers who actually want to come — not a paywall on the conversation.
How does it work — what do you actually plan for me?
Tell us your dates, your starting country, and what you want out of the trip (beaches, diving, culture, off-grid, family, honeymoon). We’ll come back with: a day-by-day itinerary, lodge picks at your budget, internal flights and transfers, and the day trips and tours we run ourselves in Vilanculos and Bazaruto. You confirm what you like, we adjust, and we book.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
No. EKAYA doesn’t take deposits for our own tours. For partner lodges, the lodge’s own deposit terms apply — we’re transparent about which is which when we send the quote.
What if the weather changes my plans?
For our own tours, weather refunds are automatic — if we cancel a boat day for safety, you don’t pay. For partner-run lodges and flights, we work with the operator’s policy and help you reschedule. See our cancellation policy.
Can you book my international flights?
No — international flights are easier and usually cheaper for you to book directly. We’ll suggest the best routing (sometimes via Doha is better than via Johannesburg, depending on dates), and we’ll handle every internal flight, transfer, and tour after that.
What languages do you work in?
English and Portuguese, with Xitswa and a few words of most regional languages between us. We have guests from the US, UK, Europe, Brazil, South Africa, and across Africa.
How far in advance should I plan?
For peak season (June–October), book 3+ months out — the popular lodges fill up and Vilanculos flights tighten. For shoulder seasons, 4–6 weeks is plenty. For last-minute, message us — we often have flexibility.
