    What if my flight is late?

    If we’re collecting you from Maputo or Vilanculos airport, we track your flight, and your driver meets you in arrivals with your name on a sign.

    What if we don’t speak Portuguese?

    You won’t need it. Everything is planned in advance, so your driver already knows where you’re going. And our drivers always do their best to communicate with you on the way.

How far is Vilanculos from Maputo, and how long is the drive?
Vilanculos is about 715 km north of Maputo by road, about 11h30 by car up the EN1, Mozambique's paved coastal highway. It's a full day on the road, so we usually leave early. We stop on the way when you need to stretch your legs or eat.
Do you run Vilanculos to Maputo as well?
Yes, exactly the same private, door-to-door service in the other direction, at the same $470. It's an easy way back down to the capital for an onward flight: tell us your flight time and we'll plan the departure around it.
Can you collect us at Maputo airport?
Yes. We meet your flight at Maputo airport (MPM) and start the drive north from there. Send us your flight number and we'll track it.
Can we break the drive and sleep a night on the way?
Yes, the drive doesn't have to be done in one day. If you'd rather stop a night, or a few, somewhere along the way, in Tofo, Inhambane or Xai-Xai, and carry on in the morning, we'll drive it that way. Tell us where you want to stop and how many nights when you message, and we'll build the route around it and confirm the fare.
How many people and how much luggage can you take?
The price on this page is for a standard car (not a 4x4) carrying up to four passengers and their luggage. If you're a bigger group, or bringing dive gear, boards or a lot of bags, just say so when you message: we'll put you in a larger vehicle or send a second car, and confirm the fare before you book. We'd rather size the car to you than squeeze you in.
Is the transfer car a 4x4? My lodge says I need one.
Our standard transfer cars aren't 4x4s, so if your lodge sits at the end of a sand or rough access track, you must tell us when you book. We do have 4x4s and will happily arrange one, but we don't run the lodges, so we can't know what each access road requires. Check with your accommodation, tell us on WhatsApp, and we'll send the right vehicle.

Is it dangerous to drive at night in Mozambique?
We wouldn't recommend tourists driving themselves at night: the roads are unfamiliar, lighting is limited, and animals and pedestrians share the roadside after dark. Our drivers are local and very experienced with night driving, so they know the roads and the conditions, so a late flight or an early start is no problem. And if part of your trip is self-drive, we can put a driver on that stretch too.
