Mid-luxury
Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel, Casa Cabana, Aguia Negra — based in Vilanculos itself, with private day trips out to the islands. Less polish than the island lodges; more flexibility, lower price, longer trip possible. A real option for couples who don’t want all-inclusive resort life.

When to come
The honest seasonal picture.
- April & November — the shoulders. Lovely weather, lower prices, fewer people. Smart honeymoon timing if your dates aren’t fixed.
- May, June, July — peak dry season. Reliable sunshine, calm seas, lower humidity. Humpback season starts.
- August, September, October — peak peak. The humpback whale calves come through, the snorkelling is clearest, the lodges fill up. Book 4–6 months ahead.
- December & January — hot and beautiful. Higher humidity, occasional rain, occasional cyclone watch. Christmas / New Year rates apply; book early.
- February & March — the lull. Hottest, most humid, cyclone risk highest. Some lodges close or restrict service. Not the honeymoon window.

How long should a Mozambique honeymoon be?
7–10 days is the sweet spot. Seven nights at a Bazaruto / Benguerra lodge, or split between a Vilanculos island stay and a few nights in Tofo for whale sharks. 14 days opens up combinations — Vilanculos + Tofo, or a Kruger safari add-on before / after. Anything under 5 nights and you spend too much of the holiday in transit; anything over 14 and you'll want to add a second region or stop.
Where should we stay for a Mozambique honeymoon?
The Bazaruto Archipelago is the honeymoon answer for most couples — private islands, world-class lodges, empty beaches. When is the best time for a Mozambique honeymoon?
April to October is the dry season — reliable sunshine, calm seas, comfortable humidity. July to October is peak honeymoon season (also humpback whale season). August–October sees the calves; the most active whale watching. November and April are the shoulders — lovely weather, lower prices, fewer people. December–March is hotter and more humid with occasional cyclone risk; some lodges close. Book the top-tier lodges 4–6 months ahead for peak season.
Is Bazaruto Island better than Benguerra Island for a honeymoon?
Different. Bazaruto is the larger island, the higher dunes, and home to Anantara Bazaruto and Kisawa. Benguerra is smaller, has the calmer feel, and home to &Beyond Benguerra and Azura. Both inside Bazaruto National Park. Honeymooners who want sense-of-place pick Benguerra; couples who want the biggest landscape pick Bazaruto. Is Mozambique safe for a honeymoon?
Yes. The southern coast (Maputo, Inhambane, Tofo, Vilanculos, the Bazaruto Archipelago) is safe with normal precautions and at the same US State Department advisory level as France (Level 2).
