A surf lesson at Praia do Tofo is a 45-minute beginner-friendly session on Mozambique's most reliable beach break, with all gear included — board, rashguard, sunscreen. Tofo's mix of mellow beachies and south-swell points means there's usually a wave suited to your level, on most days of the year.

We meet at the surf school on Praia do Tofo, right next to Casa Na Praia. Boards (soft-tops for beginners, harder boards as you progress) and rashguards are included; sunscreen is on us. Bring water — and that's about it.

Lessons are run by a rotating team of local instructors — every one of them experienced, professional, and (most importantly) bringing the kind of vibes that make falling off a board feel like part of the fun. They'll match the spot to your level and the day's conditions.

Before you book.

I've never surfed before. Can I do this?
Yes — that's most of the people we teach. You'll start on a soft-top board in waist-deep water, learn the pop-up on the sand, and be standing on a wave (or close to it) by the end of the 45 minutes. Praia do Tofo is one of the gentler beaches on the coast for first-timers.
How old does my child need to be to take a lesson?
All ages are welcome. We tailor the lesson to the child — younger kids spend more time on a longer board in shallow water with the instructor right there. If your kid is comfortable in the sea and follows instructions, they'll be fine.
Is 45 minutes enough?
For your first lesson, yes — 45 minutes of focused effort in the water is plenty before fatigue sets in. If you want longer, book back-to-back lessons or come back the next day; you'll progress faster across two short sessions than one long one.
What's the price exactly?
1,500 MZN per person for solo, couples, and groups of 2–3. 1,350 MZN per person if you book as a group of 4 or more. Roughly $24 / $21 USD at current rates. The lesson is 45 minutes either way.
Where do we meet?
At the surf school on Praia do Tofo, right next to Casa Na Praia. Once you book, we'll send the exact pin and the meeting time.
Can I book for today?
Most days, yes — but sooner is always better. Conditions and instructor availability change through the day. Message us as early as you can.
Who's the instructor?
A rotating team of local instructors. All of them are experienced, professional, and locally trained. We match the instructor to your level and the day.
What if the surf is flat or unsafe?
We'll reschedule. Tofo has surf most days of the year, but if the ocean's not playing — too small, too big, dangerous current — we move the lesson to another day. No charge, no fuss.
Can I rent a board without a lesson?
Yes. Board rental is a separate option — message us and we'll quote it based on what you want and how long. Lessons are the right call if you've never surfed; rentals make sense once you can paddle out and stand up on your own.
How do I pay?
Cash (MZN preferred), card, bank transfer, or mobile money. We confirm payment when you book.
