How far is Tofo from Massinga?

140 km, about 2h30.

Massinga is about 140 km north of Tofo by road, about 2h30 in the car. The road runs in to Inhambane city, round to Maxixe, then north on the EN1 through Morrumbene, and it’s paved the whole way.

Massinga is a district town on the EN1, with a market, fuel and banks rather than a beach. Travellers come through it for the beach lodges east of the highway and for the Pomene National Reserve, which lies in Massinga district (ANAC). The $125 fare covers the town itself; the beach lodges and Pomene need a 4x4 and are quoted separately.

Call it whichever you like: it's a private shuttle, a taxi booked ahead and a driver for the day, all in one. The car and the driver are just for your group, nobody else gets on, you choose when to leave, and we collect you at your lodge or the airport. It's one fixed price of $125 per car, not per seat, whichever way you're going.
How do I pay for the transfer?

How far is Tofo from Massinga, and how long is the drive?
Massinga is about 140 km north of Tofo by road, about 2h30 in the car, on tar the whole way. You drive in to Inhambane city, round to Maxixe, join the EN1 and head north through Morrumbene to Massinga.
Do you run Massinga to Tofo as well?
Yes, the same private, door-to-door service in the other direction, at the same $125. If you're heading down to catch a flight from Inhambane Airport (INH), give us your flight time and we'll leave early enough that you're not watching the clock.
Can you take us to the beach lodges east of Massinga?
Those we quote separately. Massinga town sits on the EN1, but the beach lodges are a further run east off the highway, and some are reached on sand, which needs a 4x4. Send us the name of where you're staying and we'll tell you which journey you're booking and what it costs.
Can you carry on from Massinga to Pomene?
Yes. The Pomene National Reserve is in Massinga district, and the turn-off comes off the EN1 north of the town. The last stretch is a sand and dirt track that needs a 4x4, so it's a different vehicle and fare: see our Tofo to Pomene 4x4 transfer, or tell us the whole trip and we'll price it as one.
How many people and how much luggage can you take?
The price on this page is for a standard car (not a 4x4) carrying up to four passengers and their luggage. If you're a bigger group, or bringing dive gear, boards or a lot of bags, just say so when you message: we'll put you in a larger vehicle or send a second car, and confirm the fare before you book. We'd rather size the car to you than squeeze you in.
Is the transfer car a 4x4? My lodge says I need one.
Our standard transfer cars aren't 4x4s, so if your lodge sits at the end of a sand or rough access track, you must tell us when you book. We do have 4x4s and will happily arrange one, but we don't run the lodges, so we can't know what each access road requires. Check with your accommodation, tell us on WhatsApp, and we'll send the right vehicle.
Can we break the drive or add a stop?
Yes. Tell us what you'd like to add when you message, a night on the coast or a detour through Inhambane city, and we'll build the route around it and confirm the fare before you book.

Is it dangerous to drive at night in Mozambique?
We wouldn't recommend tourists driving themselves at night: the roads are unfamiliar, lighting is limited, and animals and pedestrians share the roadside after dark. Our drivers are local and very experienced with night driving, so they know the roads and the conditions, so a late flight or an early start is no problem. And if part of your trip is self-drive, we can put a driver on that stretch too.
