How far is Vilanculos from Inhassoro?

80 km, about 1h30.

Inhassoro is about 80 km north of Vilanculos by road, about 1h30 in the car. The road runs out to the EN1, north on tar, then east on the 12 km road that ends at the beach in Inhassoro. The highway goes past Inhassoro, not into it, which is why the last stretch matters.

Inhassoro is a fishing town in Inhambane Province, smaller and quieter than Vilanculos: a dhow harbour, a long shallow beach and a handful of lodges and beach houses. It looks straight out at Bazaruto Island, about 24 km offshore (Britannica).

We drop you at your lodge gate. Casa Luna, Dugong Lodge, Cashew Bay Lodge, Lula’s Paradise, Billfish Lodge, Seta Inhassoro, Hotel Estrela do Mar, the beach houses on the same shore and the Vista de Bazaruto campsite are all covered by the $125 fare. The places out towards Bartolomeu Dias, about 30 km further north, are a low-tide beach drive in a 4x4, so we quote those separately.

How much is a taxi or private transfer from Vilanculos to Inhassoro?

Inhassoro is about 80 km north of Vilanculos by road, about 1h30 in the car. You head out to the EN1, Mozambique's paved coastal highway, run north on tar, then turn east onto the 12 km road that ends at the beach in Inhassoro.
Which Inhassoro lodges do you drive to?
Any of them. The town sits on one long beachfront, so Casa Luna, Dugong Lodge, Cashew Bay Lodge, Lula's Paradise, Billfish Lodge, Seta Inhassoro and Hotel Estrela do Mar are all minutes apart, as are the private beach houses along the same shore and the Vista de Bazaruto campsite about 7 km south. Give us the name or a pin and we'll take you to the gate.
What about the lodges further up the coast, past Inhassoro?
Those we quote separately, because they're a different journey. The places out towards Bartolomeu Dias, about 30 km north of Inhassoro, are reached by a low-tide beach drive rather than a road, so they need a 4x4, the right tide and more of the day. Tell us where you're staying and we'll price it before you book.
Do you run Inhassoro to Vilanculos as well?
Yes, the same private, door-to-door service in the other direction, at the same $125. Plenty of people book it to catch a flight from Vilanculos Airport (VNX): tell us your flight time and we'll leave early enough that you're not watching the clock.
Can you collect us straight from Vilanculos airport?
Yes. We meet your flight at Vilanculos Airport (VNX) and drive you on to Inhassoro in the same run, so you don't need a night in Vilanculos to break the journey. Send us your flight number and we'll track it.
Can we get out to the Bazaruto islands from Inhassoro?
Inhassoro looks straight across at Bazaruto Island and Santa Carolina, and the archipelago is a big part of why people come up here. Our island day trips leave from Vilanculos, so the easy way is a day on the water with us first and the drive up to Inhassoro afterwards. One message books both.
How many people and how much luggage can you take?
The price on this page is for a standard car (not a 4x4) carrying up to four passengers and their luggage. If you're a bigger group, or bringing fishing gear, boards or a lot of bags, just say so when you message: we'll put you in a larger vehicle or send a second car, and confirm the fare before you book. We'd rather size the car to you than squeeze you in.
Is the transfer car a 4x4? My lodge says I need one.
Our standard transfer cars aren't 4x4s, so if your lodge sits at the end of a sand or rough access track, you must tell us when you book. We do have 4x4s and will happily arrange one, but we don't run the lodges, so we can't know what each access road requires. Check with your accommodation, tell us on WhatsApp, and we'll send the right vehicle.

Is it dangerous to drive at night in Mozambique?
We wouldn't recommend tourists driving themselves at night: the roads are unfamiliar, lighting is limited, and animals and pedestrians share the roadside after dark. Our drivers are local and very experienced with night driving, so they know the roads and the conditions, so a late flight or an early start is no problem. And if part of your trip is self-drive, we can put a driver on that stretch too.
